Five Days Later

this morning the cleaning crew came in and took out a few fans. they said it's drying up pretty well and they didn't think we'd need to take out the walls. phew... i honestly, couldn't see how that would have went. but apparently, the moisture have dropped significantly and the only trouble spots are in the corners, so they've directed all their fans at all the corners of the walls.

the assessors come out tomorrow. they will look at the lasting damage and hopefully given an estimate on the cost to replace and also give us an idea of what they will cover. i hope they will be understanding and fair in their coverage. so far all we've heard about them are good things.

we've tried to continue our lives as normally as possible and not let this consume us, but there is the underlying added stress. chiyang's had to take some time off from work to supervise the clean up and well, that's always stressful, having to tell your patients you can't see them last minute.

tomorrow i see my retina specialist. he's quite difficult to get an appointment with, so we can't change the appointment. that means chiyang will have to take care of cody while the assessors are walking around the home. bummer!!! i have a feeling the doctor will do a full work up on me to check for inflammation in my retina. i hope there isn't anything...

we head to chicago on wed. i'm semi looking forward to it. i want cody to meet his grandparents, to meet his uncle and auntie. i can't wait to see linn again. but at the same time, i approach this trip with much apprehension. it's chiyang's grandmother's 90th birthday. and every year, it's the same old painful gift comparison of who can make her the happiest. we never win that game, or even bother to try to enter ourselves in the running. but when the gifts are all opened in front of everyone, it's hard to get away. oh, there are mini performances too. almost like a game she starts so that we can all fall over ourselves to make her happy. chiyang's dad has already told us to give his grandmother cash for her birthday. but that just doesn't sit right we chiyang and myself. and well, given our current state, we've got none for gifts. yeah... we haven't bought one yet. sigh... sometime i wish i could just shrivel up and disappear for the duration of that moment.

okay... gotta get back to packing for the trip... i'm thankful though that my trip will end with time spent with good friends at CCUC. i'm looking forward to a nice lunch in chinatown! i miss that part of my time in chicago a lot... good friends and good chinese food!!!
