vestibular clinic's miracle

so today i went to see my rheumatologist who upped my medications, and told me the course to taper off it again... honestly, it sucks! going up makes me all wired, then coming down slowing is painful and tiring... literally!

but after my doctor's appointment, i decided that i would call the vestibular clinic to see if they could squeeze me in. after explaining that i was across the street from their clinic, they said, ok...
my wonderful therapist, shelly, talked to me about my experience to get some history. then she started. she laid me down on a very wide padded and raised platform and rolled my head to the right. and instantly i started spazing! i was spinning, getting nauseous, freaking out and the whole nine yards. she told me to keep my eyes open and after bending over to look at my face, she said, "yeah, you have it really bad. it's severe. i'm so glad you came in today. don't worry, we'll take care of it. i know it's scary, but it will go away, you can close you eyes now"...

she steadied my head until the episode went away, and then tilted my head to the left, the unsteadiness came back, but not as intense. and when it settled, she rolled me over and sat me up. she did that three more times until the spinning went away. she explained that there were calcium particles in my inner ear that had gotten loose, so by turning my head in the different positions, she was trying to move it back into place. and the reason why she had me keep my eyes open even though it was so uncomfortable was to see the direction my eyes were twitching (kind of like when someone is in a seizure), to clue her into which way to move my head.

okay... to me, that sounds sooo cool, in theory. but i'm the subject, and honestly, it was awful when it first happened, but after the third time, i think i'm cured! it's amazing! it was such an awful experience, and yet so simply remedied!!!
